A piece: Used when you are referring to a part of something.

Apiece: Used interchangeably with the word each.

Example Sentences: If you want a deal, go to Frank's; he sells burgers at $2 apiece. Frank's is really expensive if you want a piece of pizza; it'll cost $2.
