Telecommute Editing and Proofreading Positions
Scribendi.com is always in the market for experienced, professional editors and proofreaders who are looking for a convenient remote/telecommute employment opportunity. Applications for full-time and part-time telecommuting positions from around the globe are accepted.
When it comes to your work, you are accurate, cautious, conscientious, exact, fastidious, fussy, heedful, microscopic, nitpicking, painstaking, particular, persnickety, picky, precise, principled, punctilious, punctual, scrupulous, stickling, strict, and thorough.
When it comes to your working relationships, you are cordial, friendly, gentle, good-natured, approachable, adaptable, flexible, amenable, receptive, responsive, and accommodating.
Working with Scribendi.com requires a moderately advanced level of computer and Internet knowledge. You need to be extremely comfortable with downloading and uploading files, attaching files to e-mails, saving and finding files on your computer, file transfers, renaming files, using a web site interface, and using an instant messaging service. You should have a good working knowledge of the major document file formats and their associated software programs. You should also be savvy enough to know where to look to find out more about a particular file format or subject. As we also sometimes get documents that misbehave, some ability to troubleshoot technical problems is extremely helpful.
Standard Qualifications for Telecommute Editing and Proofreading Positions:
- A college diploma or university degree in a relevant field
- At least three years of experience in editing, writing, document production, or language teaching
- English must be your native language
- Excellent reading comprehension skills, and the ability to follow written instructions and work with minimal supervision
- Be absolutely fanatical about meeting deadlines
- An average editing/proofreading speed of about 1000-1,500 words per hour
- Microsoft Word 2007 (preferably Word 2010) or higher on a secure PC computer
- The ability to accept payments in your own account in US dollars via electronic funds transfer using PayPal.com. Please review PayPal's international payment network for more details.
Preferred Qualifications for Telecommute Editing and Proofreading Positions:
- A graduate degree in a relevant field
- Broadband/high speed Internet access
- Access to additional word processing/document production software beyond Word/Office, i.e., Star/Open Office, Word Perfect, Open Office, LaTeX, Acrobat, iWorks, Publisher, PageMaker, etc. (You don't need to have all of these, but please mention if you have one or more of them.)
- In-depth knowledge of one or more style guides (i.e., Chicago Manual, Turabian, APA, etc.)
